St. Anthony's College

St. Anthony's College, located in Shillong, Meghalaya, India, is an esteemed educational institution managed by the Salesians of Don Bosco Educational Society. Established in 1934 with humble beginnings, the college has evolved into a comprehensive institution offering diverse faculties. Guided by the educational philosophy of St. John Bosco and the vision of Fr. Joseph Bacchiarello, the college aims to democratise college education, particularly for the disadvantaged. With an emphasis on value-based teaching, it endeavours to produce intellectually competent, morally upright, and socially committed individuals, equipped to contribute to society. In line with global educational trends, the college offers application-oriented courses to meet the demands of the community and enhance students' employability. The college's motto, "Ever More and Better Ever," reflects its commitment to continuous improvement and innovation.

 

Department of English

Established concurrently with the inception of the college in 1934, the Department of English has been a cornerstone of academic excellence, nurturing a deep appreciation for literature and its profound impact on society. For nearly nine decades, the department has been steadfast in its mission to promote the study of literature, recognising its intrinsic relevance to societal dynamics and intellectual pursuits. Affiliated with North-Eastern Hill University, the Department of English has consistently upheld rigorous academic standards, producing a cadre of distinguished academicians, writers, journalists, and renowned personalities. Imbued with the ethos of St. Anthony's College, both faculty members and students of the department carry the torch of enlightenment with intellectual curiosity and a spirit of exploration.
